Sand and Sauce-bottles

The workshops have begun! We’ve been creating huge sea-sourced drawings (thanks to a most generous donation of huge slices of sail-cloth – thank you Jim). Sand filled sauce-bottles – with sand from Gairloch beach – are used to create pen-like out-lines, scallop shells shift sand in brush-like waves adding texture and contour. There is something wonderful about working big – as a team – pitching in ideas for imagery.

And hugely exciting for me seeing the results, followed by the disappearing act; the corners of each picture ‘hoisted’ causing the sand to slip and collect centrally ready to be tipped back in a box, creating the ‘blank canvas’ ready for the next session.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
